So this is the next material that will be studied in this semester, namely "EXPLANATION TEXT"
Part 1
What is Explanation Text?
This Explanation Text explains about a process.
An explanation is written to explain how and why something in the world happens. It is about actions rather than about the thing.
Explanation text serves to explain the process and causes occurrence of an event or a thing in detail.
An explanation text usually comes from questions related to why and how to an existing phenomenon.
For example : Rain, Earthquakes.
What is the Purpose of this Text?
The purpose of writing explanation text is to tell the reader about how something works or why something happens.
Generic Structure an explanation text consists of :
- General Statement, : Contains general information about the topic to be discussed in the text.
- Sequenced Explanation, : An explanation of why and how the event occurred.
- Closing or Concluding Statement, : The conclusion of the story.
Structure of Explanation Text :
- Social Function : an explanation text is used to describe how and why a certain phenomenon happens.
- Generic Structure :
1. The title that identifies the topic to be explained
2. A general statement
3. A sequenced explanation
4. Closing/Concluding statement
Linguistic Features :
The Language Features of this Text is :
- Use Simple Present Tense
- Use Action Verbs
- Noun Phrases
- Abstract Nouns
- Passive Voice may be used
- Using the Technical Terms
- Contains an explanation of the process
Element of Language :
- Adverb first, Then, Following, Finally
- Cause-and-Effect Relationship (If-Then, So, As a consequence, Since, Due to, Because of, Thanks to)
- Passive sentences, in present tenses
- Speech, Stress, Intonation, Spelling, Punctuation, and Handwriting.
